About Us
Adventures for Curious People
Adventure Geek Travel was created for people who want more from their holidays than sitting by a pool.
We design journeys that take you beyond the guidebooks, into mountains, historic trails, and places that make you feel properly alive.
Our trips are about exploration, connection, and shared experiences. Whether it’s hiking along dramatic coastlines, following ancient pilgrimage routes, or discovering hidden corners of Europe, every trip is carefully designed to blend adventure with great company and unforgettable moments.
Meet Julia
Adventure Geek Travel was founded by Julia Doherty, a lifelong adventurer and the creator of the Adventure Geek walking community.
What started as local walks in Northamptonshire grew into a thriving community of people who share a love of the outdoors, travel, and trying new things.
After years of organising group adventures, from UK hiking weekends to international expeditions, Adventure Geek Travel was created to bring those experiences to a wider audience.
Julia believes travel should be active, social, and meaningful. Her trips are designed so that you don’t just visit places, you truly experience them.
Julia says
“Adventure Geek isn’t just about travel. It’s about stepping outside your comfort zone, discovering incredible places, and sharing the journey with like-minded people.
If you love walking, exploring and a bit of adventure, you’re in the right place”
Proper Adventures
Journeys that take you beyond the usual tourist trail.
Great Company
Many people arrive solo and leave with new adventure friends.
Expertly Planned
Carefully organised trips so everything runs smoothly.
Our Culture
Gathering moments.
Adventure Geek Travel is built on the belief that the best journeys aren’t just about the places you visit, they’re about the experiences you have along the way.
We design adventures for curious people who love exploring on foot, discovering new landscapes and experiencing places properly, not just passing through them. You can join one of our friendly small-group trips or set off on your own with one of our carefully planned self-guided adventures.
Whether you’re walking a famous trail, uncovering hidden corners of Europe, or simply pausing to take in a spectacular view, every Adventure Geek journey is about embracing the adventure and creating memories that last long after the boots come off.
Mission
To help people experience extraordinary places through thoughtfully designed adventures — whether travelling with a group or exploring independently.
Vision
To inspire more people to step outside, walk further, and discover the world in a more meaningful way.
Value
Adventure, curiosity, connection and the belief that travel should be active, memorable and a little bit exciting.

What Our Adventurers Say..
The best way to understand an Adventure Geek trip is to hear from the people who’ve experienced it.
Sunrises, Storms and Self-Discovery
“With just a few months left of the year, I decided it was time to pause, reflect and take on a new challenge.
A huge thank you to our very own Northamptonshire adventure company, Adventure Geek, and to the amazing Julia Doherty for organising my second Camino. This time it was twice as long, and I knew I could self-navigate and carry my kit. Julia’s easy-to-follow plan and suggested points of interest made the whole experience seamless.
The people I met along the way were wonderful, and the experience gave me the space to pause and reflect on what really matters. We all have our own way of doing that, this was mine.”
Beautiful Scenery and Great Company
Great fun, a beautiful location and wonderful company, thank you Julia.
Ladders, Platforms and Big Smiles
Well what a fantastic trip. The guides Maroš and Peter we great they were very knowledgeable and were able to adjust our itinerary when needed. This trip really challenged you on many levels but I’m pleased to say I managed the platforms and ladders. As always Julia a great well organised trip and the accommodation was really good along with the food
So Much Adventure in Just a Few Days
The Istanbul City and Cappadocia Balloons trip was really amazing! We really packed so much into the few days we were away, but it still very much felt like a long holiday! The group bonded so well from the off and we had such fun at every opportunity. Julia looked after us all so well, and even when our initial balloon trip got postponed by a day, she managed to find alternative adventures for everyone. I have lots of happy memories of this trip, and I can't wait to book on another AG adventure very soon. Thank you Julia. 🙂
A Perfect First Adventure Geek Weekend
It was my first AG weekend this year. I had a wonderful time, helped by the gorgeous weather we were lucky to have. I stayed in the Windermere YHA, which was fine clean and well organised. Our walks were led by Lucy and were great., as was she , a lovely lady and her fab dog Tarn.Saturday was a longer, more challenging walk, and the Sunday more leisurely visiting Wray castle too. 😊
